What to expect from your SIA Security Officer course 

If you’re considering a role in the private security industry, the SIA Security Officer course is one of the most accessible and essential qualifications available. Who is the SIA Security Officer course for? 

The SIA Security Officer course, also known as the Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry, is designed for individuals who want to work in unlicensed premises such as: 

  • Office buildings
  • Warehouses and logistics sites 
  • Construction sites 
  • Reception and concierge roles 
  • Retail outlets and shopping centres 

Unlike the Door Supervisor course, which includes training for licensed premises, this qualification is designed for roles such as daytime security, corporate environments, and property protection. Please note that a Security Officer qualification does not permit you to work in venues where alcohol is served.

What the course covers 

At Vistech Training, our course is delivered over five days at our Middlesbrough training centre. All training is delivered face-to-face by experienced security professionals who bring real-world insight into the classroom. 

The course includes three mandatory units: 

  1. Principles of working in the private security industry
  2. Principles of working as a Security Officers
  3. Application of conflict management in the private security industry 

These modules are designed to give learners a strong understanding of legal responsibilities, communication skills, incident reporting, access control, patrolling techniques, and how to manage conflict and emergencies on site. 

How you’ll be assessed 

The course is assessed through multiple-choice exams and some scenario-based assessments. Our instructors provide full guidance and support, including plenty of time for revision and practice throughout the course. 

To enrol, you’ll need to bring: 

  • A valid form of photo ID (passport or driving licence) 
  • Two forms of recent proof of address (dated within 3 months) 
  • Sufficient spoken and written English to complete the course and exams 

What happens after the course? 

Once you’ve successfully completed the course, you’ll be awarded the Level 2 qualification, which enables you to apply for your SIA Security Guarding Licence. This is a legal requirement to work in most security roles in the UK, and we can support you through the licence application process if required.
